Connecticut's first community, Windsor was settled in 1633 and quickly established itself as a successful agricultural community. Settled at the confluence of the Farmington and Connecticut rivers. The Native Americans referred to this area as Matianuck. Tobacco farming contributed to the growth and prosperity of this historic New England town. Brickmaking was another early industry. In its heyday, there were more than 40 brickyards in Windsor. Today, Windsor continues to be a close community with a strong civic and social spirit and excellent town services.
